come sit awhile

where did summer go?

today was officially our last day of summer vacation...BOO!

 

for me it's bitter sweet in a weird sort-of way...i'm ready for my 'routine' but as for the 'work' part that is still yet to be determined?

 

open house was friday night and although jackson prefers for us not to mention the word s-c-h-o-o-l...he was pretty stoked to see his friends and find his desk in his new 4th grade classroom (of 7 total)

 

we will continue on with our 'summer' though it will now involve homework and earlier bedtimes...

i did hear him say as he loaded up his new back pack..."i'm officially gonna be a 4th grader tomorrow, now that's pretty exciting"

i believe he may be looking forward to it just as much as me!

 

and yes, he rides his bike in the yard mostly...you should see the hill we live on

it was only a thought...

due to the EXTREME HEAT here in GA, i really haven't been much in the mood for a cup of HOT coffee.  in fact, i have switched to this

 

it has caffeine and some B vitamins to boot and evidently does enough to get me through my day, like my coffee did!

looks so easy and i love the fact that you can make it ahead and in a large dispenser and keep it around for awhile...right there in the fridge!  she even added sweetened condensed milk for a twist...good Lord, help me!  

what was i thinking, giving up my morning and/or afternoon coffee jolt?  and with only a day or two left of summer and those 4 year olds soon to be on my heels...i think not! 

i've now decided to buy a case of mason jars...

and maybe some square ice?

THERE ARE ONLY THREE MORE DAYS LEFT UNTIL SCHOOL STARTS!!!

ugh.

so what's a girl and an almost-official-fourth-grader to do?  we packed in all in and in only a few days...in other words we almost kill ourselves trying to get it all in!

Monday began with a day trip to Emory Hospital.  my friend judy had declined and was found to have had a brain bleed.  the tumor over her eye had burst and was bleeding.  surgery went very well and she is doing good!   Thankfully, my mom and dad were here...they took jackson to swim and his tennis match so he never missed a beat!  Tuesday rolled around and jackson and i headed to Six Flags with our friends marina and brooke.  marina and i had been planning this trip for awhile and it finally happened!  jackson, being the not-so-brave-soul that he is, reluctantly only rode a few rides and then we headed to Skull Island where the action was!  mainly water slides here and he was all over it!  Wednesday was a day of catch up and running errands...last minute purchases before school begins, new belt, socks, haircut (it was horrible)!  His uniform shirts came in the mail this week...no time like the present.  and i can't forget swimming lessons x2.  Thursday was spent at the pool, literally.  our $16.99 pool has brought much fun this summer, as always!  it was a lounge kinda day which was oh-so-good!  Friday is here!  and as much as i would like to say i'm ready for school to begin on monday...i'm just not.  BUT...the absolute most best-est part is that i'm only going back to work THREE DAYS a week!  can i get an Amen?  last year i talked to my boss and she was more than willing to let me job share if i could find that special someone to share it with...after a bit of a hang-up, it happened and it's going to work very well for both of us!  Sanity included.  this, of course will give me the time i need to continue my transcription course and hopefully in a few months begin working from home!

weekend recap

phew...where do i begin? 

 

on saturday morning we headed to atlanta to see Cars 2 in 3D, make a stop at Emory to see Judy and then a little shopping and who knows what else?  of course, we were running a bit behind and then we.hit.traffic.  gotta love atlanta...except for this time we were not even near the city yet! 

then we decided to see the later movie...stopped off at Fellini's, our favorite pizza joint and had some lunch.  spinach and mushroom for me and it's oh so good!  jeff got a call from his cousin in north carolina...they were in town and wanted to meet up later that evening!  we haven't seen them in like forever! 

made it to the movie only to find out that it was "sold out".  nice.  so we had to promise jackson that tomorrow would definitely be the day.  he was a trooper...sort of. 

headed to Emory...judy is doing very well!  she was moved to a rehab facility and has been doing nothing but showing off!  tomorrow she has an appointment with her dr's and hopefully we will know some results. 

we headed to Dacula, GA that evening to meet up with Vic, Terri, Brittany and Troy!   so nice to see you guys and i wish we could have had longer but we enjoyed it!!  hope the Brittney Spears concert was everything you wished for!!  and we promise to come to north carolina soon!

we made it home at 12:45 am.  i really don't do much past 11:00 pm and that's stretching it.

sunday rolled around and i was mentally and physically exhausted.  just the thought of having to 'do' something made me want to cry and not to mention, i didn't feel well

it all boiled down to lack of sleep and a little too much on my plate and in my head...and pure stress.

reluctantly, i bailed on church.  

ugh

we ALL took naps.  me.  jeff.  jackson. 

  
and it was sometime yesterday when i realized that i had my camera the ENTIRE weekend and only took TWO photos.

2011 Peachtree Road Race

i'm so excited to be a part of this HUGE road race...60,000 people to be exact! 

 

it's been going strong for something like 40 years!!

AND now that i am a runner i figured that i...along with jeff and our good friends randy and alicia, need to join all of the hoopla this Fourth of July...

98 degree weather included

July 4th centerpiece

i want to share with you my gi-normous July 4th or just July centerpiece...and #5 on my 10 Tasks in 10 Days list

several years ago i found this huge, black, rectangle basket at Potterybarn...not the outlet but the actual store...i believe i ran to it and bought it no questions asked (ok, not really) and i don't even think it was on sale

that, my friends is how much i was in love AND i have no regret

most of the year it sits on our table containing a boat load of green apples (don't ask how many)...then there is christmas...and july

 

i keep three terra cotta pots just for this centerpiece only, this way they stay clean

their holes are covered with duct tape

 

 

i purchased a 50lb bag of play sand and fill each pot almost full...i used about half the bag

 

 

 

i have 9 medium sized flags (bought mine at michaels, $1.50 ea) and place three in each pot

 

this sucker is heavy...so i don't move it around unless i have to (jeff is use to this and we are known to eat 'around' it...you should see christmas)

as for right now that is all that is on the table...i'm currently looking (through boxes) for my "farm fresh" dishes but those may have to wait.  and i'm NOT telling you the amount of moving boxes i have marked 'dishes' or atleast not until i count them...it's ridiculous and wonderful all at the same time! 

so there you have #5 on my list....

makes for a pretty nice ta-da!

RED, WHITE and BLUE

in honor of the Fourth of July which is just a few days away!!  this weeks feature will be ALL red, white and blue!  this is easily one of my favorite holidays...the decor is stunning to say the least with flags flying almost every where you look

...and not to mention good food! 

 

what a great party idea!

 

 

now why can't i think of things like this??   an easy one...
